Would it be safe to put a drum set on hard wood floors?

Would it be safe to put a drum set on hard wood floors? Like, would it put indents (ect) on the wood floor? Or should I put like a rug under it, or put something under it where it touches the floor? Or is it OK for it to rest on the floor?
