Belly button rejection?

My belly button was pierced before and my body rejected it. The skin over the piercing literally got so thin that it broke off and now I have a nasty scar/ indent(hard to describe). I want to get rid of the "scar" so i can get it re-pierced, how do i do it ?(and i'd rather not get the bottom or sides done).
